Dr Gilberg graduated with an MBChB degree from the University of Cape Town in 1974. He attained Fellowship of Faculty of Pathology of The College of Medicine of South Africa (Clinical Pathology) in 1981.
In 1982 he emigrated to Townsville and in 1983, passed his AMEC exam. Since then, he has worked in private practice, with 10 years as VMO and then Consultant Emeritus in haematology and anatomical pathology at Wollongong Hospital. Before joining Pathology South Coast, Hugh was the Pathologist in charge at the Laverty Pathology Illawarra (Barrack Heights) Laboratory.
