Patient Account Information
Will I receive an account?
If you had a pathology test you may receive an account. There will be a
cap on the “out of pocket” expenses for any rebatable services,
regardless of the number or complexity of the tests requested. Any
testing which does not attract a Medicare rebate, or tests referred to
a specialist laboratory, may incur charges in addition to this cap.
Pensioners and current Health Care Card holders will be bulk billed directly to Medicare, except where tests are not rebatable.
For DVA gold card holders, all pathology services, whether performed in
or out of hospital, will be billed directly to the Department of
Veterans’ Affairs. DVA gold card holders will not receive an account.
If you were an inpatient at the time you had your pathology testing you will receive an account.
If you have private health cover, you will be able to claim from
Medicare and your Private Health Fund and there will be no extra out of
pocket expenses.
If you do not have private health cover you will be able to claim a
rebate from Medicare. You will be required to pay the balance of the
account. This also applies to Pensioners and Health Care Card holders.
How can I pay my account?
Payment options are listed on the remittance advice section at the bottom of your invoice. They are:
- BPay
- Credit Card by phone, internet or mail
- Cheque or money order by mail
If paying by BPay, Phone or Internet an official receipt for claiming purposes will be forwarded to you within a few days.
